Emily Gale Denig (July 2005)

Andrew  (8 yrs.) and Lindsey (5 yrs.) – husband, John; living in Buford, GA;

"I went to the University of South Carolina and graduated with a degree in education in 1990.  I then taught for 3 years in SC and during that time I met my husband (actually when I was briefly back in NJ... he is from Chester,NJ).  We got married in 1994 and he lived and worked in Atlanta (he went to GA Tech), so I relocated to the NE Atlanta suburbs and continued to teach 2nd grade for three more years.  Then I had Andrew, my 1st child, and 2 1/2 years later I had Lindsey.  I chose to quit teaching when I had Andrew and have been home ever since.  The past two years I taught at our church preschool two days a week.

 My world came to a grinding halt in 2002 when my son, Andrew, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) at age 3 1/2.  It is a genetic disease for which there is no cure, but great research is being done, and great progress has been made in the last 20 years.  It is a disease that attacks the respiratory and digestive systems of the body.  The cells don't process the body's sodium chloride correctly, which causes chaos within the cell..in turn causing the body to produce thick, sticky mucus that lodges everywhere.  Enough of my science lesson...but this is what has controlled my life since 2002, and will continue to forever.  Thankfully my daughter does not have CF, just bad asthma.  Many days I feel as if I should have been a nurse instead of a teacher!  Thankfully, Andrew is doing well right now, and has not been hospitalized in a year (which is wonderful!!)  We continue to remain hopeful and pray every day for a cure.  If you know who Boomer Esiason is...he was the quarterback for the NY Jets...his son has CF, too.  Boomer has raised millions through his foundation to help fund CF research.

Right now I am thinking about attempting to work full-time (for the first time in 8 years...YIKES!!) at my children's elementary school for the coming school year since my youngest will be entering kindergarten this August.  I am not sure right now if the right position is available...we'll see.  If nothing good comes my way, I will substitute teach instead.  When Andrew gets sick that would be the best situation to have...sorry I can't work today!

That is about it as to what has been going on in my life since 1986.  I wish it were more "upbeat" and exciting...SORRY!! I guess this wasn't too brief, was it?  It has been 20 years! That's scary!!"

Chris Miller (July 2005)

"Married in 1990. Relocated to Myrtle Beach,SC in 1992. Worked with the City of Myrtle Beach Water Dept. since April of 1992. Started a family with the birth of my daughter Elizabeth in 1997 (age 7). "I've been living in Boston since I graduated college. Worked in the corporate world for a bit, then went back to school to get my Masters in Education.  Met my husband in 1996 - he is from Ireland; got a job teaching math; got married; had our first daughter - Caitlin in 1999; moved the suburbs; had our second daughter in 2001 - Kelsey; had our son in 2004 - Aidan; got certified in Administration and I start my new job as a Vice Principal this summer.  Life has been wonderful and crazy!!

"I was at my old school for 9 years- ready for a change.  Our kids are doing great- Caitlin is very much the tomboy- loves sports and hates dresses- just like mom; Kelsey is the wild and crazy middle child- loves dresses but is definitely a tough cookie- nobody messes with her; our new little guy is just soo happy all the time.  He rolls with the punches and his big sisters absolutely adore him.  Marcus has been busy working on finishing up his degree at Emmanual College in Boston which will be very exciting when that is finished- hopefully early next year.

I can't believe it has been 20 years- where does the time go.  Crazy!  I am back in the tennis thing again.  I started playing in a women's league and am loving it- I took a break after Aidan was born but I just started back again and I play almost every weekend.  I forgot how much I love it- I still brag about us being state champs.  People get a kick out of it:)"
